Hello my crafty friends! It is time for the new December Paint-A-Flower from Altenew and who does not love the Sweet Pea flower? I will admit my finished product is not at all what I had in mind when I received this stamp. Remember the old saying if at first you do not succeed....? It especially holds true in card making.
For my CAS design today I used one of my favorite mediums, the Woodless Watercolor Pencils. I have the new larger set coming in the mail as we speak and I cannot wait to get them. I started by positioning my stamp down on my A2 watercolor paper from Altenew. This watercolor paper is my favorite so far. I have only tried a few others to date and I keep coming back to Altenew's paper. Once I was happy with my position, I then stamped with a black waterproof ink. Altenew's Black Obsidian ink work's well however, I have been experimenting with several of the black hybrid inks lately. So far I have been rather partial to Ink on 3 black Hybrid ink and used it here. Once I was done with my inking, I was ready to begin coloring.
What I like best about the Woodless Watercolor Pencils is that I can decide on my colors and very lightly (lightly is the key here) color areas of my stamped areas and then come in with my slightly wet paint brush and lay out my color and come back in with more color or different color as I wish. I can take my paint brush directly to my pencil to pick up color and lay it down and it just always turns out gorgeous. For this project I used Rubellite, Coral Bliss and Heartbeat as the main colors for my petals. I took a little yellow and green colors. for the middle stamen and then outlined my flower with yellow to pull it out some. I laid this panel out on a piece or Concord & 9th Grapefruit cardstock I had and used it for my sentiment as well which I chose to use black embossing powder.
As my finishing touch, I used a glitter pen on the petal once it dried for some shimmer. Part of me now wishes I would have given this card a couple of embellishments now but I do struggle with embellishments some days. I do hope I have inspired you to at the very lease buy this month's Paint-A-Flower however, I have the monthly subscription and I love that I get an advanced sneak peak. You can always skip a month if you do not like the stamp so take the discount and sign up my friends!
